Audi's next-generation A3 hatch has been caught on the road again this week, offering the clearest look yet at the finer details: the shape of its headlights and tail-lights.

Taking inspiration from this year's A3 Sedan Concept, the new A3's scalpel-like headlights will continue the trend established with the brand's newer models, while going sharper than ever.

The story is the same at the rear, with the new A3's taillights starting wide at the outside edges and tightening to a narrow point above the number plate.

While the five-door hatch shown here features a practical high roof-line, buyers expecting a more dynamic shape for the next-generation A3 will need to see how the three-door variant turns out.

Earlier photo sets have also offered a look at the new A3's interior, revealing that its styling will carry over virtually unchanged from the A3 Sedan Concept.

A six-speed manual shifter replaces the 'button-and-dial' automatic transmission of the sedan concept. The interior door panels are also largely identical to their concept counterparts, differing only in colour and stitching.
