2012 Acura ILX Revealed In Patent Images

Honda's next-generation Civic sedan is due to launch in Australia next month, but Honda's luxury arm Acura has already re-engineered the new Civic to creat its own small sedan offering.

Called the ILX, Acura's newest (and smallest) model was previewed in concept form at the Detroit auto show last month. As these patent illustrations show, the production car differs little from the concept.

The sheetmetal is identical between concept and production car, with the only visible changes being a taller ride height, smaller wheels, and a more conservative bumper design.

While the concept featured two strips of LED running lamps/indicators in the lower front bumper, these have been replaced by conventional foglamps in the production ILX.

Air vents in the corners of the rear bumper have been deleted too, leaving only a pair of red reflectors. The concept car's side skirts are also absent from these patent drawings.

The ILX will be officially unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show this week, and is set to go on sale in North America soon after. With no Acura presence in Australia, it's unlikely the ILX will ever be sold locally.
