The V60 arrives in Australia with three models, including the diesel-engined D5 AWD and the two petrol-engined T6 AWD and T5 models. The petrol models are also available in sportier R-Design form.
Driving the V60 T5 is Volvo's new 2.0 litre four-cylinder GTDi petrol engine, paired with the company's dual-clutch Powershift automatic transmission to produce 177kW and 320Nm of torque.
In range-topping T6 form, the V60 gets Volvo's upgraded 224kW and 440Nm 3.0 litre turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine, mated to a six-speed Geartronic automatic transmission and a permanent all-wheel-drive system.
The single diesel offering, the D5 is powered by a 2.4 litre five-cylinder twin-turbo engine that produces 151kW and 420Nm of torque. This engine is paired to Volvo's all-wheel-drive system and the standard Geartronic automatic transmission.
Fuel consumption for the T5 engine is listed at 8.7 l/100km, while the larger T6 engine uses 10.3 l/100km. The frugal diesel returns figures of 7.1 l/100km.
The R-Design versions of the T5 and T6 models get sharper exterior styling and a number of interior enhancements, along with a 15mm lower 'Sports' chassis for sportier handling.
Handling is improved thanks to 15 percent stiffer springs and 20 percent stiffer bushes behind. There are also new monotube dampers up back.
The V60 R-Design models get a gloss black grille, colour-matched body components, larger intakes to the rear diffuser and twin tailpipes, along with five-spoke 18-inch 'Ixion' diamond-cut alloy wheels.
The sports theme continues inside with bolstered sports seats, a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, sports leather gearshift lever, sports pedals, and R-Design floor mats, trim inlays and watch-dial instrumentation.
Electronic Climate Control with cabin pollen filter, Cruise Control, electric windows with one touch auto up/down for front and rear, electrically retractable (and heated) exterior door mirrors, power driver seat with memory for seat and mirrors, leather trim, remote central locking, rain sensor windscreen wipers, rear Park Assist, Bluetooth connectivity and 17-inch alloy wheels.
The standard High Performance Sound system combines a full colour 5-inch screen, AM/FM radio, single slot MP3 compatible CD player and eight speakers and comes complete with audio controls on the steering wheel and auxiliary and USB inputs.
An optional High Performance Multimedia system is also available that gains a 7-inch screen. A DVD player replaces the CD player.
This same specification is shared with the mid-range D5 AWD turbodiesel model while the T6 AWD gains Volvo Navigation System (VNS), a Dolby Prologic surround sound system audio unit that uses the 7-inch screen, DVD player and 12 speakers, power front passenger seat, front Park Assist and larger 18-inch alloy wheels.
Standard safety features across the V60 range include Volvo's City Safety system, Emergency Brake Light (EBL) system, anti-lock brakes (ABS), driver and front passenger front and side airbags and Inflatable curtain side airbags, Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS), Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC), Advanced Stability Control (ASC) and Rollover Protection System (ROPS).
Optional safety features include Volvo's third generation Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system that combines Collision Warning with Full Auto Braking (CWAB), Queue Assist, Pedestrian Detection and distance alert. Lane Departure Warning combined with Driver Alert is also an option.
