2011 Volkswagen Eos Launched In Australia

VW Australia has today launched the updated-for-2011 Eos, bringing the convertible's styling in line with Volkswagen's current family look.

Starting at $49,990 for the entry-level 103TDI and topping out at $51,990 for the 155TSI, the arrival of the 2011 Eos comes with a $500 increase across the range.

The Australian debut of the revised Eos follows its international unveiling at November's Los Angeles Auto Show, just one month after the local Eos gained a power boost with the Golf GTI's 155kW 2.0 litre engine.

On the outside, the 2011 Eos gets Volkswagen's new angular headlights and tail-lights, new bumpers and the brand's now familiar letterbox grille design.

Like the 2011 Passat, the interior styling of the 'new' Eos carries over largely unchanged from its predecessor, with updates limited to revised air-conditioning controls, a new multi-information display and new trim options.

Storage capacity in the boot is listed at 380 litres with the roof closed, falling to 205 litres when the roof is folded away - a process that takes just 25 seconds.

Engines

Engine options for the 2011 Eos also carry over, both equipped with six-speed DSG automatic transmissions only.

The entry-level 103TDI is powered by a 2.0 litre 103kW/320Nm turbodiesel engine, with fuel consumption figures listed at 5.9 l/100km - a 0.2 l/100km saving over the previous model.

In 155TSI form, the 2011 Eos features the same 155kW/280Nm 2.0 litre engine powering the Golf GTI, with fuel consumption listed at 7.7 l/100km.

Features

Standard features for the 2011 Eos include Bluetooth connectivity, an alarm system and Volkswagen's Media Device Interface.

Features carrying over from 2010 include leather upholstery, alloy wheels, the RCD510 audio system, dual-zone climate control, rain-sensing wipers and rear parking distance sensors.

As with the 2011 Passat, a new second-generation version of Volkswagen's Park Assist technology is also available as a $900 option, assisting drivers not only in parallel parking, but also in perpendicular (90 degree) parking.

With the driver responsible only for prompted use of the accelerator and braking, the Park Assist system will handle the steering duties, slotting the Eos into - and out of - its space.

Other optional extras include the RNS510 satellite navigation system, Bi-Xenon headlights with LED driving lights, and a Sports Package that adds 18-inch alloy wheels, dark-tinted LED taillights and Adaptive Chassis Control.
