MINI COUNTRYMAN AUSTRALIA

Just weeks out from its local launch in February, MINI Australia has today announced pricing for the high-riding 2011 MINI Cooper Countryman.

The Countryman measures more than four metres long with four doors, up to five seats, and the brand's new ALL4 four-wheel-drive system.

Four variants will be offered in all, featuring a diesel engine and both turbocharged and naturally-aspirated versions of MINI's 1.6 litre petrol engine.

MINI Australia National Manager, David Woollcott said the MINI Countryman will open the door to new MINI customers requiring extra space and flexibility for their family or leisure activities.

“The Countryman is versatile enough to accommodate any lifestyle while retaining the sense of fun that makes all MINIs so good to drive and enjoyable to own,” Mr Woollcott said.

Starting at $37,700, the range will open with the Cooper Countryman, powered by a non-turbo (naturally-aspirated) 1.6 litre petrol engine. Power is listed at 90kw and 160Nm torque, while fuel consumption is just 6.0 l/100km. The 0-100km/h sprint is knocked over in 10.5 seconds.

Moving up the range, the Cooper S Countryman will start at $47,500, drawing power from a 135kW and 240Nm 1.6 litre turbocharged petrol engine. Fuel consumption is listed at 6.6 l/100km, while the 0-100km/h run is over in a rapid 7.6 seconds.

Following in the footsteps of the ultra-efficient MINI Cooper D, the 2011 MINI Cooper D Countryman is powered by the BMW-developed 1.6 litre diesel engine, producing 82kW and 270Nm of torque.

Fuel consumption for the diesel Countryman is listed at 4.4 l/100km, while acceleration to 100km/h is manages in 10.9 seconds.

The MINI Cooper S Countryman and MINI Cooper D Countryman are both available with MINI ALL4 all-wheel drive as an option.

The suspension on all models comes as standard with DSC Dynamic Stability Control, while passive safety is managed by the high-load-resistant body structure, six airbags, three-point inertia-reel seat belts on all seats and a Tyre Defect Indicator.

The MINI Countryman comes as standard with two single seats at the rear adjustable individually for length, and is available at no extra cost with a three-seat rear bench.

Luggage capacity may be increased in several steps from 350 all the way to 1,170 litres.
