Mazda Australia has today announced a number of updates to the range-topping Mazda2 Genki; this follows the arrival of updated Neo and Maxx variants earlier this year.

The mid-year update sees the Genki gain a number of new features, with a Manufacturer's List Price cut of $445 for both the manual and automatic variants.

As a first for the light-car segment, the Mazda2 Genki gets rain-sensing wipers, along with auto headlights and cruise control.

There is also a trip computer with current and average fuel consumption, distance-to-empty and average vehicle speed, and an ambient temperature display.

Climate control is standard. Outside, the Genki gets a chrome exhaust tip and subtle updates to the front bumper and alloy wheel design.

The Mazda2 continues to be the second-best selling model in the Mazda line-up, with 5763 sales year-to-date in 2011, compared to 14,203 for the Mazda3 and 2882 for the CX-7.

In the light car segment, the Mazda2 trails the Yaris (5794) for a close third, with the segment currently led by the soon-to-be-retired Getz, with 6803 sales.
