After what can only be described as a wild and wet weekend, Round 3 of the 2011 FW1 Aussie Racing Cars Super Series in Winton came to a close this weekend, with the series' favourite drivers claiming the top spots.
Beating out a full 37 rivals, first place went to 17 year-old Adrian Cottrell - his first-ever Aussie Racing Cars win - followed in second by Peter Carr and Tyler Owen in third place.
The Winton track is relatively short when compared to other tracks in the Series. It was no walk in the park however, with the circuit's many tight turns and twists giving the teams a good workout.
The extreme weather conditions experienced at Winton over the weekend added another element to the battle.
Adrian Cottrell was dubbed the master of wet conditions and the skills he displayed on the track saw him take home the trophy for Round 3 of the 2011 FW1 Aussie Racing Cars Super Series.
Hayley Swanson was excited to show locals how far she’d come since making her debut in Adelaide, but the series' ambassador ended the weekend without placing in any of the races.
Monster Energy’s David Sera, a former karting champ turned Aussie Racing Cars driver, made a superb debut by finishing fifth in Sunday’s race.
David took the more powerful car like a duck to water, and despite the race being called early due to dangerous weather conditions, he was proud of his fifth position in Sunday’s race.
Plenty of merchandise was handed out by the FW1 racing team, including clothing and accessories.
The next Round on the 2011 FW1 Aussie Racing Car Super Series calendar featured alongside the V8 Supercars event will be in Queensland, from 19 to 21 August 2011. TMR will continue to bring you all the news from the Series, so stay tuned.
