2011 Australian International Motor Show To Be Biggest Yet

Following last year's inaugural event in Sydney, the 2011 Australian International Motor Show (AIMS) in Melbourne promises to be the biggest yet - and bigger than the last Melbourne International Motor Show in 2009.

According to event director Ross Tyrie, demand for exhibitor space has well exceeded the floor space for displays at last year's event at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre.

“The response from exhibitors after the Sydney edition last year has seen the show grow to a point where it will be over 30 percent larger in floor space this year,” Mr Tyrie said.

“The show will also be larger than the last time a major motor show was held in Melbourne in 2009.”

Mr Tyrie said that more than half of last year's exhibitors have requested more space in Melbourne, with many planning to show future products and international concept cars.

Audi has confirmed a Melbourne debut for its new A6 large sedan, and Toyota will show its FT-86 II and Prius C City Car concepts.

Peugeot's new 508 sedan is also expected to make its debut at the Melbourne show.

“The good news is that a lot of the stars of the show appear to have a heavy focus on new technology – especially green technology such as alternative fuels," Mr Tyrie said.

“A number of brands will also have new supercars and sports cars, with some showing off new design concepts."

The Australian International Motor Show opens at 6pm Friday 1 July and runs through to Sunday 10 July at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
