Audi has at last confirmed that its V10-powered Audi R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI, revealed internationally last year and expected to arrive in Australia later this year, will be joined by a V8 model in the coming months.

In the hardtop model, Audi's V8 produces 315kW and 430Nm of torque, rocketing the svelte supercar to 100km/h in 4.7 seconds.

The same powered fabric roof from the V10 model will feature on the V8, and as with the rest of the R8 range, the Spyder 4.2 FSI features Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive system.

Unlike the 19-inch wheels of the 5.2 FSI (above), the V8-powered 4.2 rides on 18-inch rims as standard, although the 5.2's 19-inchers - and its magnetic ride dampers - will be available as an option.

Audi has yet to reveal any official images of the V8 R8 Spyder, although it is unlikely to look any different to its V10 sibling.

The R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI is powered by a 386kW 5.2 litre V10, rocketing to 100km/h in just 4.1 seconds, onto a top speed of 313km/h - a mere 0.2 seconds and 3km/h short of the V10 R8 Coupe.
