In the last few weeks Jaguar-Land Rover has lodged trademark applications for no less than 29 model names.

The venerable XJ nomenclature is one of them – rekindling memories of glorious V12 sports cars – as are unusual ones such as Sawtooth, Stormer and Landmark.

According to AutoGuide some of the others include P-Type, T-Type, C-XE, iXE, diXE, XEdi, XEi, CXF and CXJ.

Earlier applications for I-Pace and I-Type were rumoured to cover future electric Jaguars with the I-Pace speculated to be a version of the F-Pace (pictured, top of page) to challenge the Tesla Model X in the growing niche market of electric SUVs.

Logic says the Freestyle will be a version of the Land Rover Freelander but Jaguar fans are excited about P-Type and I-Type which hint at possible future siblings for the F-Type sports car.
