Winding Road have posted a short article talking briefly about their recent drive in the Genesis; a car which represents quite a few firsts for Hyundai. It's their first rear-wheel-drive car, their first V8, and their first real contender in the luxury market. If this car does indeed make it to Australia, that year's Car of the Year will be a given.
Forget the derivative styling; anyone with a decent understanding of marketing knows that that's a reality of automotive design these days, and far bigger companies are guilty of the same approach.
On a full circuit of proving-ground games, such as slaloms, rough roads, and high-speed ovals, the Genesis as either a V-6 or V-8 showed itself to be equal to or better than some of its toughest competition. Hyundai had a BMW 530i, Infiniti M35, and Lexus ES350 on hand for us to tear around in as well, so we know of what we speak. The solid chassis is nimble and strikes the right balance between agile and comfy.
Did you ever expect to hear that about a Hyundai?
The sooner this car arrives in Australia, the sooner I can start feeling a little better about my long-held belief that Hyundai are the next big thing.
