Volkswagen have just released official pictures of their new Golf based Tiguan compact SUV and its fair to say that it has come up a treat. These are pictures of the production car unlike recent ‘official’ pictures which were of Tiguan mules still undergoing testing.
The new Tiguan SUV will be presented to the public for the first time in September at the Frankfurt International motor show. Interestingly, Volkswagen have set up a site for the Tiguan at www.tiguan-base.com where you can log in to the virtual world of the Tiguan and keep up to date with developments. Volkswagen claim that more than one million people have dropped in over the last three months to check out their new SUV.
Powering the Tiguan are a choice of three TSI (petrol) and two TDI (diesel) engines. Volkswagen claim that they have managed to develop extremely quiet TDIs with common rail fuel injection. They achieve 103 kW/320 Nm and 125 kW/350 Nm. Both TDI diesel engines are Euro-5 compliant, the new standard due to come into effect in 2009.
Further information regarding the Tiguan and its mechanical specification can be found by reading Volkswagen’s Tiguan press release. It’s only an initial introduction press release and no doubt more detail and images will be provided on or near the official debut in September.
