Breathing new life into old badges seems to be the thing to do at the moment. Citroen and Fiat are doing it with the Citroen 2CV and Fiat 500. Volkswagen gave us their new millennium take on the old Beetle and BMW resurrected the Mini.
Volkswagen's 'department of names' was out to lunch when the pictured concept was finished. So old became new again and the Scirocco badge is being dusted off after being left for dead more than 15 years ago.
The rather dashing and very green Scirroco looks like being powered by the supercharged and turbocharged 1.4-litre engine from the Golf GT and will no doubt come with some form of DSG gearbox option.
VW in America are saying they don???t want the Scirocco because it will harm sales of the VW Golf GTi which is a faintly ridiculous stance. No doubt that will change before the Scirroco is released.
The pictured car is the Concept Scirocco and it is not known when production is likely to start. VW has indicated that there is a reasonable chance that the Scirroco will make it to Australia over the next couple of years.
It???s all good news for the hot hatch segment which continues to fill with quality product for the car enthusiast.
