After offering an in-the-metal glimpse of their XC60 luxury cross-over at last years Sydney Motor Show, Volvo has announced pricing and specifications for its new SUV offering.
The XC60 is the first car in the Volvo range to showcase the brand's refreshed ?Nordic? design language, finessing the already established look of the existing line up. In addition, the XC60 comes generously equipped with an impressive list of luxury and safety appointments
Chief amongst these is City Safety, a low speed crash avoidance system included as standard across the range. City Safety constantly monitors the area ahead of the vehicle at speeds up to 30 km/h and can apply the brakes to slow or stop the vehicle with the aim of avoiding or minimising an impact. A Haldex all-wheel-drive system also features across the XC60 range, allowing a torque split of up to 50 percent to the rear wheels for secure road holding.
Other XC60 standard equipment includes leather trim for the seats, steering wheel and shift knob, retractable mirrors with puddle lights, electronic climate control, auto dimming rear view mirror, integrated booster seats for the rear seats and electric adjustment for the drivers? seat.
The three-model range consists of the 136kW 2.4 litre in-line five cylinder engined D5, the more luxurious D5 LE and the range topping petrol powered T6 running a turbocharged six cylinder petrol engine producing 210 kW and enabling a 0-100 km/h dash in 7.5 seconds. Both engines are backed by Volvo?s six-speed geartronic transmission, with the T6 gaining a selectable sport mode with a more responsive shift pattern.
In addition to the standard features list the D5 LE also picks up 18 inch alloy wheels, oak inlays on the door trims, electric adjustment for the passengers seat, rain sensing wipers, front and rear park assist and a panoramic sunroof. The T6 also receives active bi-xenon headlights, water-repellent side glass and hill descent control.
On the safety list is an almost baffling list of acronyms, with Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSCT) Roll Stability Control (RSC) Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Trailer Stability Control (TSC) Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS) Side Impact Protection System (SIPS), front seat and curtain airbags as well as two-stage driver and front passenger aigbags, plus flashing emergency brake lights, laminated window glass and Intelligent Driver Information System (IDIS)
The XC60 and its impressive arsenal of standard safety inclusions has already prompted insurers such as the NRMA, SGIO and SGIC to offer reduced premiums to XC60 owners, such is the benefit of the safety technology in the car.
The XC90 starts at $57,950 for the D5, the D5 LE is priced from $64,450 and the T6 from $64,950. A Drive Assist Pack including Lane Departure Warning with Driver Alert Control, Apative Cruise Control with Collision Warning and Auto Brake Function and Blind Spot Information System is also available for $5,190 for the D5, $4,990 on the D5 LE and T6. A Teknik Pack with Volvo Navigation System, Park Assist Reversing Camera, Bluetooth and Active Bi-Xenon Headlights (on D5 and D5 LE) costs $4,990 on diesel models and $3,990 for the T6.
