Two companies pushing hard for the autonomously-driven future have teamed up to further accelerate development.
Volvo has announced a new partnership with ride-sharing company Uber. The pair will work together to develop “new base vehicles” incorporating both semi- and fully-autonomous technologies.
A combined AU$ 394 million will be poured into the project, with Volvo understandably providing the cars. Uber will then purchase the finished product from Volvo to further its ride-sharing platform which will one day offer passengers the option of self-driven cars.
Once established, Uber plans to add its own touches to the Volvo-sourced autonomous vehicles, while Volvo will simply continue with its push for fully-autonomous cars.
