Volkswagen is heading to the ‘Ring with a specially prepared race version of its Scirocco hatch. Two ‘officially’ leaked images have hit the internet in as many days, proving that VW are serious about taking the Scirocco racing.

Volkswagen plan to run three of the Scirocco racers at the 24 hour event that runs from the 24th to the 25th of May and have some big names featuring on the drivers list, including World Rally Champion Carlos Sainz and Le Mans winner Hans-Joachim Stuck.

Powered by a 224kW/300hp version of Volkswagen’s 2.0-litre TFSI engine the Scirocco should have enough performance to impress.

"The new Scirocco was in its element from its very first lap around the Nordschleife. It’s a grueling test and we’re looking forward to how the Scirocco fairs later this month," said VW Motorsport Director, Kris Nissen.

In the meantime Volkswagen continue testing in the lead up to the famous and grueling 24hr race.
