Volkswagen has upped the capability of its Amarok V6 ute.

The German brand has increased the towing capacity of its range-topping ute by addeing a new higher-rated towbar and an altered rear setup.

Now capable of towing 3.5 tonnes, up from 3 tonnes, the Amarok is on a level-pegging with key rivals like the Ford Ranger Wildtrak and Toyota HiLux SR5.

The new equipment is fitted to all 2018 model year Volkswagen Amarok V6s, which are now available for order.

Power comes from the same, class leading, 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged diesel engine that produces 165kW of power and 550Nm at torque.

Pricing for the Amarok V6 range kicks off at $55,490 before on-road costs.
