Victoria’s Unsafe Roads Get $75 Million Funding Boost

The Victorian Government has announced this week that it will put $75 million into repairs and improvements at sites around Victoria will a history of 'run-off-road' and intersection crashes.

Forming part of the Brumby Government's $650 million 'Safer Road Infrastructure Program', works will be undertaken at 39 intersections and 27 lengths of road in metropolitan and regional Victoria. 

“Over the past five years, run-off-road crashes have accounted for 40 per cent of fatalities and 28 per cent of serious injuries on Victorian roads,” Roads Minister Tim Pallas said.

Among the planned works, more than $2 million has been earmarked for intersection treatments and a new roundabout on the Nepean Highway in Dromana. 

Almost $1.8 million will be spent on 'run-off-road' crash treatments on Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road, between Pakenham South to and Koo Wee Rup, and $1.5 million will go to works on Bendigo-Murchison Road in Colbinabbin.

The types of upgrades across the state include the installation of wire-rope barriers and guard rails, new traffic signals, road-side clearing, improved signage and linemarking, and shoulder sealing.
