Victoria's EPA has launched a new advertising campaign in the war against littering, the state's Roads Minister Tim Pallas has announced today.

Dubbed 'Witness a Drive-by?', the campaign is calling on the public to report 'drive-by' litterers to the EPA to investigate and, if warranted, issue a fine to the registered owner of the vehicle.

People making a witness report must include details of the location and vehicle, including registration, make and model, time of the incident and the type of litter thrown.

“The EPA’s campaign portrays litter thrown from a vehicle as a criminal act and with littering an ongoing problem in our community, it is something all Victorians should not only be concerned about, but act to stamp out," Mr Pallas said.

Starting today, the campaign will include outdoor advertising and a series of radio advertisements in Melbourne and regional Victoria.

The outdoor advertising will focus on items such as cigarette butts and drink containers, captured in a crime scene setting under the bold headline ‘Witnessed a drive-by?’
