Victoria To Crush Cars Of Repeat Offending Hoons

VICTORIA'S TRANSPORT Accident Commission (TAC) Minister Tim Holding announced today that the State Government plans to crush or sell the cars of repeat offending 'hoons'.

Hoons rushing to vote for the opposition in November will be no better off, with Liberal leader Ted Baillieu announcing he would enact even tougher laws if his side is voted in.

Mr Holding said the Government is "working through" its options for the new laws, promising that it would work to ensure there would be no unintended consequences for third parties.

Speaking with AAP, Mr Holding said the plan includes giving courts the ability to decide whether a third-time offender's car should be sold or crushed.

If the court rules that the car be sold, the money from the sale would go towards paying out any remaining finance on the vehicle, with the remainder given to any victims of the crime.

If the vehicle has been illegally modified or is otherwise unsafe for the road, it will be crushed rather than returned to a safe and legal condition.
