GM Holden’s VE Commodore is truly becoming an international jet setter and the next country to be added to its list of destinations looks set to be Brazil. GM announced today that the VE based Chevrolet Omega will be introduced to Brazilian market as early as August this year.

Although GM claim it is based on the VE Commodore it is quite obviously a left-hand drive VE Commodore with a Chevy bowtie badge. Not much else has been changed.

Brazil, home of soccer legends and intimate waxes is no stranger to the Holden Commodore. In fact the previous model Commodore is the current Chevrolet Omega. Prior to this the Chevrolet Omega was based on the Opel Omega A and manufactured locally in Brazil between 1992 and 1998.

The new Brazilian Chevrolet Omega will be powered by the 3.6-litre 190Kw Alloytec V6 found in the VE Commodore Omega. Coincidentally, Holden have just announced that prototyping for the VE Commodore based Pontiac G8 has been completed and exports to the USA are due to begin in early 2008.

You can never have too many international markets for your new car when you have a billion dollar development bill in the top drawer…
