Alex Davison joined a contingent of V8 Supercar drivers crossing the 'coat-hanger' to promote the first Telstra Sydney 500 Street Race, to take place from 4-6 December this year.

Driving his IRWIN Stone Brothers Racing Falcon, Davison and five other V8 drivers gave commuters crossing the Harbour Bridge at least six reasons for a 'double-take' in the rear view mirrors - it's not often you can share lanes with a V8 Supercar.

The drive was part of the launch festivities for the event which has been put together by V8 Supercars Australia and the New South Wales Government and is to be run on a street course around the 2000 Olympic Games site in Homebush.

"For IRWIN Industrial Tools, Stone Brothers Racing and I - that certainly was an outstanding moment," Davison said.

"It is very rare that V8 Supercars actually drive on public roads, let alone drive across one of the most recognisable landmarks anywhere in the world!"

Davison said the entourage got "plenty of thumbs-up from people in cars, trucks, busses, trains and even pedestrians".

The Telstra Sydney 500 will run from 4-6 December. Everybody loves a street race; the Sydney 500 will be one to circle in the calendar.
