Toyota Refreshes Corolla Hatch – Adds Safety Tech

Toyota looks to fill the safety gap between Australia's highest selling passenger car in 2016, the Corolla, and its rivals.

The Japanese brand has added a suite of safety equipment which includes forward collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and auto high beam as standard to its range-topping ZR hatch.

In response to this added equipment Toyota has raised the price by $450 to $30,020 before on-road costs.

Pricing for the rest of the Corolla hatch range remains unchanged.

However, Toyota is offering this safety technology - which is standard on rivals like the Mazda3 - as a $750 option on all other grades, including the Corolla Hybrid.

This safety upgrade brings the hatch into line with the recent updates to the Corolla sedan range.

Toyota has also dumped the manual option from the mid-tier SX, leaving the Ascent and Ascent Sport Ascent Sport the only models offering a non-CVT transmission.

Ascent - $20,190 (manual), $22,200 (CVT)

Ascent Sport - $21,210 (manual), $23,250 (CVT)
