The Toyota juggernaut continues to roll along with Toyota Australia announcing today that for the first time ever it has outsold the combined totals of its two nearest rivals, according to official industry sales results issued today.

October sales for Toyota were a record 20,212 compared with the combined Holden and Ford total of 19,621.

"It has taken us almost 50 years to get to this position in the Australian market - and it is a great achievement for everyone involved with Toyota. We are constantly striving to do better than our competitors by offering targeted vehicles in a wide variety of segments. We have always taken the view that customers will determine our success based on our vehicles and after-sales service fulfilling their requirements”, said Toyota Australia's senior executive director sales and marketing, David Buttner.

So far this year, Toyota has lifted its market share to 22.4 per cent compared with 21.9 per cent at the same time last year while their 10-month sales total of 195,078 vehicles for the year-to-date is more than 19,000 higher than for the same period in 2006.

The sales success is spread across Toyotas large range of vehicles with notable performers being the locally manufactured four-cylinder Camry and V6 Aurion whose sales are up more than 59 per cent this year. Last month, Toyota set record October sales for Corolla, Prius, HiLux 4x2 and 4x4, Kluger and RAV4 with the Corolla maintaining its place as Australia's most-popular small car and the nation's second bestselling vehicle.

HiLux is Australia's third most popular vehicle with October sales of 3752 sales - 4x4 (1993) and 4x2 (1759) while the introduction of the new Kluger has seen Kluger sales volume more than triple (1173).
