Almost exactly one year on from its last boost, the top-selling Toyota HiLux has come in for another round of safety upgrades.

The upgrades apply to the recreational SR5 double-cab turbodiesel 4x4 HiLux, while the volume-selling SR double-cab petrol and diesel 4x4 also gain a number of new options.

Toyota has added vehicle stability control and traction control as standard equipment, while the existing anti-skid brakes benefit from the addition of brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution.

Along with the safety updates, a styling upgrade for the SR5 double-cab turbodiesel 4x4 HiLux sees 17-inch alloy wheels replacing the previous 15-inch wheels, along with a full-size spare.

Despite the updates, the prices remain unchanged at $53,690 for the manual and $55,690* for the auto. Air-conditioning is standard.

The anti-skid brake option pack already available for the SR has been expanded to include curtain-shield airbags and new sports-style bucket seats for the driver and front passenger, both fitted with side airbags. The price for this pack remains unchanged at $800.

On 4x2 and other 4x4 HiLux models with anti-skid brakes available as an option, the price has been halved to $400.

On 4x2 HiLux models where anti-skid brakes and a limited-slip differential are offered as a package, the option price has been cut by $300 to $700.

The HiLux remains Toyota's best-selling vehicle in 2010 with 2679 sales in August, lifting its 2010 total beyond 30,000.
