Toyota have provided details today of a number of upgrades to key models in its HiLux line-up.

The entry-level HiLux WorkMate with ABS option now has power windows, power door locks, fabric door trim and will be fitted with 15-inch wheels, up from the previous 14-inch items.

All HiLux SR grades now have power mirrors, while SR vehicles with automatic transmission will also be fitted with cruise control.

Toyota's HiLux line-up comprises 30 model variants, with the choice of two- and four-wheel drive, three cabin types, three DOHC engines, manual and automatic transmission and three equipment grades, including WorkMate, SR and SR5.

On the safety front, all Hilux models are fitted with dual SRS airbags, while ABS anti-lock brakes are only standard equipment on the high-grade SR5 models, a glaring safety oversight in this day and age. ABS brakes can be optioned on the WorkMate and SR grades but really should be a standard fitment item.

There are three DOHC engines to choose from when buying a Hilux and they include a 2.7-litre VVT-i petrol, 3.0-litre Electronic Direct Injection (EDI) turbo-diesel and 4.0-litre VVT-i quad-cam V6 petrol. A four-cylinder 2.7-litre petrol is only available in the 4x2 WorkMate and is matched to a five-speed manual transmission.

The Quad-cam V6 petrol and turbo-diesel engines are offered in 4x2 and 4x4 configurations and can be matched to a five-speed manual or to an electronically controlled five-speed automatic transmission.
