Richard ‘The Hamster’ Hammond well known for co-presenting BBC’s Top Gear with Jeremy Clarkson and James May made headlines less than a year ago when the jet powered dragster he was driving crashed.

Hammond spent 5 weeks in hospital recovering from brain injuries as a result of the accident that occurred when a front tyre blew out at 464 km/h (288mph) during a speed record attempt.

Appearing to have more lives than a cat, Hammond has managed to survive another incident while filming Top Gear. The 37 year old was taking part in ‘Britcar 24 hour’, a UK endurance race at the famous Silverstone track with Jeremy Clarkson, James May and “The Stig” when he was shunted off the track at high speed.

“Richard wasn't hurt at all, but the car was damaged. It was taken back to the pits and repaired before Richard carried on with the race", said a BBC spokesman.

An investigation into the jet propelled accident a year ago revealed that Hammond did not receive sufficient training to drive the car safely. Don’t ask me how you can drive a missile safely with no tires at 288mph! For those of you that haven't seen the jet car crash see below.
