Sygic Releases Australia’s First Turn-By-Turn GPS App For The Apple iPhone

MOBILE COMMUNICATION AND NAVIGATION applications specialists, Sygic, has launched Australia's first 'turn-by-turn' GPS application for the Apple iPhone, in partnership with Australian maps provider Whereis (a Sensis company).

Utilising new functionality offered by the iPhone OS 3.0 software update, the Sygic navigation app has been designed to provide users with iPhone-specific functionality and ease-of-use, including voice guidance, instant re-routing (for missed turns), lane assistance and speed notices among its features.

Sygic already offers a version of its maps application for the Symbian and Windows Mobile platforms, but its iPhone version marks the first 'turn-by-turn' GPS app for Apple's mobile marvel.

“The partnership is a great step towards ensuring more Australians have easy access to a quality navigation experience across a range of devices. The launch of a navigation product like this on the iPhone is an exciting advancement,” Whereis commercial manager Fred Curtis said.

Sygic PR Manager, Anna Hurbanic, said that the Sygic Mobile Maps Australia app can be used both in a vehicle or on a bicycle, allowing users to select the appropriate mode and then have the software calculate the best route for their journey.

Featuring more than 600,000 points of interest, as well as business content from Yellow Pages, the Sygic maps app can be purchased from the iTunes App Store for $79.99.

Sygic's navigation application for the iPhone has beaten TomTom's upcoming iPhone software to the market in Australia, although the TomTom app was officially scheduled for a June 19 launch in the US iTunes Apps store.
