We don't often associate America with hardcore Porsche tuning, but it looks like we might have to re-think that stance. Switzer Performance Innovations of Ohio has just unveiled a twin-turbo kit for the Porsche 911 that results in a staggering 1000hp (around 750kWs). Meet the Sledgehammer.
Even more impressive than the total power output is the fact that these figures are achieved with standard internals. Company owner, Tym Switzer, had set out to test the limit of the standard 997 internals and the results are quite impressive.
"When the customer first came to me with his 997, we talked a lot about pushing the limits of the new engine and what might be possible using stock internals. I had already been inside the 997 turbo engines, and felt that 700 hp at the wheels seemed well within reach on pump fuel, and that we might be able to go a bit further," Switzer said.
The final results of this research is one handful of a Porsche that can do the 0-100km/h dash in the mid 2.0 second range. A standing quarter is dispatched in a mere 9.8 seconds with trap-speeds of over 230km/h.
The USD$49,990 package includes a pair of Garret GT30R turbos, SPI headers and a sports exhaust, an intercooler upgrade and a very extensive tune. With around 630kWs of power and almost 1000Nms of torque at the wheels, it's unlikely customers will feel short-changed. Be sure to check the video below to see the Sledgehammer in action.
