Friends, rejoice. Life as we know it did not end overnight (despite the US Congress refusing to play ball with the bag-full of roosters once known as the American banking system) - so you've got to be happy with that. Best of all, we can now all look forward to a few more rounds of 'world series arse-kicking' up and down Wall Street for the next millennia or two while things get untangled.

For the rest of us, things are going to translate roughly like this: if you were burdened with an abundance of shekels or ducats or other legal tender before things turned shyte-encrusted, you've now got less of the suckers to worry about. If you weren't carrying an abundance, then things will stay exactly as they are for a good bit longer. No real harm done.

These are, then, perfect times to remember the curative powers of a day in the saddle of a fine machine to restore 'the animal within'.

Which brings us to the matter of purchasing a suitable motorcycle if you find yourself unfortunately 'motorcycle-unencumbered' at this exact moment.

Suzuki has at least one answer. Suzuki has had a close eye on the tea-leaves post-LAMS (Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme), and has been quick off the mark in getting a brace of LAMS-approved motorcycles and scooters into dealerships.

Its 'learner-legal' range is the largest in Australia. It has now been further expanded with the addition of the 2009-model GSX650FU (pictured top) and SV650SU (pictured above) road bikes, bringing Suzuki's LAMS approved range to a total of 12 motorcycles: from scooters, to tourers, all the way through to cruisers.

What this means is that Suzuki has something for the riders of all shapes, sizes and preferences – from the barge-arse to the bean-pole.

"Suzuki is committed to ensuring all entry-level and returning motorcyclists have a diverse range of options, and these two brand new models are a welcome addition to our LAMS range," Perry Morison, General Manager Motorcycles, Suzuki Australia, said.

"I think LAMS is going to see more and more riders taking to the streets, and we feel that our range caters to all the needs of new and returning riders."

Suzuki's new GSX650FU comes with a four-cylinder, fuel-injected 650cc engine while the SV650SU carries Suzuki's proven 645cc, 90 degree V-twin. Each has had the ECM (Engine Control Module) re-mapped to match the power output with the legal requirements for learner riders.

Both available for $9,990 RRP (inc. GST, plus dealer delivery and government theft charges), the SV650SU features metallic blue livery, with the GSX650FU coming in a metallic blue over White colour scheme.

Run free, friends. The Dirk.
