It's about time we saw some good industry news and Suzuki has definitely delivered. Six straight years of increased annual sales is good reason to celebrate with Suzuki Australia having moved 1730 vehicles in December, for an annual tally of 22,523. The new record sales figure was a 4.4 percent increase on 2007's numbers.

Since 2004, Suzuki has more than tripled retail sales and has proved itself as one of the fastest growing vehicle brands in Australia.

Commenting on the result, Suzuki Australia General Manager, Tony Devers, said:

"This is another record breaking year for Suzuki in Australia, and given that Suzuki cars compete in less than half of the market segments, our 2008 sales figure represents an outstanding result."

"Suzuki was one of just a handful of manufacturers to boost volume over 2007. Importantly, we also increased our market share 11 percent year on year, which is now running at an all-time high of 2.2 percent.

Almost every model in the Suzuki line-up has seen an increase in sales over 2008. Suzuki's range of SUVs has been particularly impressive, climbing 8.5 percent in a segment that has seen overall sales drop by five percent.

""With class leading fuel economy and increased levels of refinement and safety, the Grand Vitara is truly the best value compact SUV on the market. Together with the evergreen Jimny Sierra, we are highly confident of further growth in this segment."

We've spent some time with The Suzuki Grand Vitara and gave it the thumbs up, You can read our review here.

Impressive as the Grand Vitara might be, the jewel in Suzuki's crown is still the Swift. The 'little hatch that can' rolled out of dealerships 12,947 times this year making it Suzuki's best selling model.

Despite the tumultuous times for the automotive sector in the fourth quarter of 2008, Suzuki has managed to return a positive annual result and promises that 2009 will be another solid year. With a strong and ever-expanding product portfolio, we're inclined to agree.
