Bloody hell, who knows what's going on at Toyobaru these days? Not a single one of these rumours about the upcoming Toyota and Subaru rear wheel drive (RWD) sports coupes might ever turn true, but they sure do sell a lot of magazines.
Auto Express have put forth the latest slice of rumour pie, suggesting that the Subaru half of the Toyobaru RWD project will be known as the Impreza Coupe. To get us all drooling in good order, they've commissioned the above rendering to give us some idea of how awesome it probably won't turn out looking. More info after the jump.
Apparently set to roll out in both an entry-level, naturally-aspirated (no turbo, y'see) RWD format, and what would essentially be a return of the legendary 22B; a turbocharged all-wheel-drive (AWD) STI version, these aren't likely to be as cheap as we'd all been expecting. Auto Express have stared down into their crystal balls and determined that the pricing of these two models would fall somewhere around GBP20,000 (AU$40,800) and GBP25,000 (AU$51,000) respectively.
Not exactly the Cheap affordable RWD shenanigans we were told to expect, but perhaps the game plan is for Subaru's models to be up-spec and Toyota's to be truly entry-level? With the rumour that the Toyota model may never even make it out of Japan, that wouldn't be the best news. The Subaru models would definitely sell at that price, but it may be a while before the young lads in their aging Nissan 200SXs will be rolling in one of these.
Perhaps that's for the best.
