Subaru Liberty GT Spec B By STi – Impreza’s Good Looking Big Brother

Next thing you know Subaru will be using short names. For now though it’s going to be a mouthful talking about your new Subaru Liberty GT spec B by STi down the pub. I'm just going to call it the GT spec B.

Prices for this looker start at $65,990 and it’s available in both manual and auto. The STi boys have got their sticky fingers into the GT spec B’s ECU and tweaked it so it now produces 194kW of power at 6000rpm, up 10kW on standard. Torque has increased by a heady 11Nm to 350Nm, available at 2800rpm. I suspect they just blew the dust out of the ECU and closed her up again.

Option the manual and you’ll get a snazzy six-speed STI short shift gear lever, while automatic versions have had their transmission control unit fettled to produce faster, sportier changes. I know your thinking that this is hair raising stuff, 10Kw and little gear shifter…but there is more and it gets better.

The GT spec B also gets some lovely 18 inch STI ENKEI lightweight alloy wheels with Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tyres and Bilstein sports tuned dampers matched to STI lowered springs for improved chassis control and dynamics.

Pillow-ball bush suspension components by STI improve steering response, ride and handling. An STI Brembo performance brake upgrade takes the fear out of reigning in those extra 10Kw.

If recent road tests of the standard GT spec B are anything to go by then you can expect the STi version to be something quite special. None of that really matters though.

What is important here is that for $65,990 you can still buy a Subaru and not feel like poking your eyes out.
