Subaru will be taking the wraps off its brand-spanking-new Legacy Concept at the upcoming North American International Auto Show at Detroit. Many 'Sube' fans are eagerly awaiting a glimpse of Subaru’s new design language and a preview of its next generation of midsize sedan.

But that's a little over a month away. To get the ball rolling and set chins wagging, Subaru has unleashed this sole teaser image onto the web, showcasing the Legacy’s all-new (and far more dramatic) nose.

While Subaru’s trademark winged grille remains, the rest of the new Legacy (aka Liberty) appears more blunt-edged and visually taller than the curent model. The vertically-stacked headlight clusters look like a hybrid between the current Legacy/Liberty’s units and those of the forgettable B9 Tribeca, while the LED-style foglights frame the lower grille quite nicely. The wheelarches also appear to be far more prominent than those of the current Legacy.

Technical details are thin on the ground, but Subaru hints in their press release that the next-gen Legacy will sport a 3.6-litre boxer engine – most likely the 191kW EZ36 flat six used by the Tribeca SUV. As with the rest of Subaru’s range, all-wheel-drive will be the drivetrain of choice.

We’ll be keeping a eye out for more teaser imagery, so stay tuned folks.
