SsangYong has been through some troubling times of late, so it’s interesting to see the Korean carmaker planning for a return from the brink.

Perhaps as something of a reminder that the company is still around and pushing ahead, SsangYong is set to reveal a production-viable version of its C200 Eco Crossover at the upcoming Seoul Motor Show.

Around the size of a RAV4 or a Honda CR-V, and conceived by legends of automotive design ItalDesign, the C200 Eco Crossover concept runs on a four-wheel-drive platform, powered by a 130kW (175hp) 2.0 litre diesel mill.

The C200 uses a monocoque body design – SsangYong’s first ever – and extensive use of aluminium suspension components help to modernise the car’s technology and significantly reduce weight.

SsangYong’s future still looks a little murky in the TMR crystal ball, but if the production version of the C200 Eco is anything like the concept, I predict a return to competition for Korea’s fourth-largest carmaker.
