The rising popularity of SUVs in China has prompted Volkswagen group’s Czech Republic brand Skoda to develop four new SUVs for the world’s largest new car market.

Revealed by Car News China the new models will be the Skoda Kodiaq, the Kodiaq Coupe and two new vehicles at this stage referred to as Model K and Model Q.

All will be made at the Shanghai-Volkswagen joint venture plant.

The Kodiaq opens the batting with a launch scheduled for next month’s Shanghai Auto Show.

Based on the latest Volkswagen Tiguan, the Skoda Kodiaq for China will be offered exclusively with 1.4 TFSI, 1.8 TFSI and 2.0 TFSI petrol engines.

A photo of the so-called Model Q has been leaked and it is certain to be either the all-new Skoda Yeti or possibly the all-new Fabia compact SUV.

As covered by TMR back in October last year, Skoda has also given the green-light to an SUV derivative of the Fabia which is reported to shun the version of Volkswagen Group’s scalable MQB chassis architecture used by the hatchback model – and the Volkswagen Polo - in favour of the mid-size version in order to deliver a compact SUV with class-leading interior space.

The larger Kodiaq Coupe has also been leaked and it will become Skoda’s flagship model in China.

Car News China is also speculating on a local version of the Teramont/Atlas – Volkswagen’s large U.S. market seven-seat SUV –bringing to five the number of new Skoda SUVs heading to the Chinese market.
