Despite the leaking of a photo to the press back in March last year, Saab has today released the first official image of its upcoming 9-5 SportCombi wagon ahead of its Geneva Motor Show debut in March.

The news of the SportCombi's coming launch follows the 2009 debut of its sedan counterpart in Frankfurt. While technical details for the wagon have yet to be revealed, its engine and trim options are likely to mirror those offered with the sedan.

With production taking place at Saab's Trollhattan plant in Sweden, the 9-5 will feature a range of engines including the entry-level 119kW 2.0 litre turbo-diesel, a 164kW 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbo petrol and the range-topping 224kW/400Nm 2.8 litre twin-turbo V6.

A 1.6 litre petrol turbo engine will become the new base powertrain when it arrives sometime after the model's launch.

The new 9-5 won't be short on modern technologies. Among its features will be Saab DriveSense adaptive chassis control, adaptive cruise control, XWD all-wheel-drive, bi-xenon SmartBeam adaptive lighting, keyless entry and starting, tri-zone air conditioning and a head-up display.

The 9-5 SportCombi is expected to go on sale in Europe toward the middle of this year, with deliveries beginning in September.

Australia

Australian specifications for the brand-new 9-5 remain unclear, although a local launch for the sedan is expected to take place in April this year.
