With the Jaguar XF proving to have exactly the rejuvenating effect the British luxury carmaker needed, it’s time to capitalise on the model and get some variety into the range.  Cover more bases, reach for a wider demographic, all that jazz.

It seems that, if the rumours are correct, the minds at Jaguar have been thinking along those lines.  German rag Auto Motor und Sport is suggesting that the British marque will reveal a Jaguar XF Estate (wagon) at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, with production to begin in early 2010.

With a long, swopping roof line, the XF Estate would maintain the same strong, aggressive and sporty styling that sits so admirably on the sedan.

Of course, what’s an XF Estate without an R variant?  AMuS speculates that a XF-R Estate will follow the regular Estate, and will feature the same 380kW (510hp) supercharged V8 mill.

Being an Estate, we should also expect to see more homely V6 petrol and diesel engines in the bargain.

That’s the family taken care of, but what about hair blowing in the wind?  We’ll need a convertible for that.  It’s been rumoured for a very long time with still nothing to show for it, but we can dream, no?

A coupe has been talked about for as long as the convertible, if not longer, but with the already coupe-like styling of the big four-door XF, it’s not likely to happen.  More to dream about, I suppose.

In the meantime, we’ll continue to hold out hopes for the far more likely XF Estate, and no doubt fathers-of-fours from around the world will be doing the same.
