The opening of Volkswagen's new manufacturing plant in Cattanooga, Tennessee might have been delayed, but that hasn't stopped local residents from gearing up for the arrival of what will be the biggest employer in town.

We’re not sure how (perhaps thanks to a bit of home-grown investigative journalism, or maybe as a gift to the town), but local television station WRCB has managed to get hold of what it says is a concept rendering of an as-yet unnamed mid-sized Volkswagen sedan.

Perhaps for lack of a better title, the concept has been dubbed simply as the New Mid-size Sedan (NMS). Volkswagen outlines that it will be similar to a Passat in size, but at a lower price point, and will be powered by the same series of FSI petrol and TDI diesel engines.

In the current market, mid-sized sedans are selling better than ever, so it makes sense for Volkswagen to have a strong offering in this sector.

According to WRCB, this rendering comes directly from Volkswagen and provides a realistic idea of design elements we should expect to see in the final product. We'll be watching this story closely, so stay tuned for more info as it comes to light, the NMS will be one to watch out for.
