LIKE A VISION out of a Doctor Who episode, the Renault Z.E. (Zero Emission) concept took to the circuit for a parade lap at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this past weekend.

At home in the modern surrounds of most international motor shows, the all-electric Renault Z.E. concept - with its acid green windows and futuristic styling - made a stark contrast to the classic Jaguar XJ13 and Aston Martin DBR1 that joined it on the circuit.

First revealed at the 2009 Paris Motor Show, the Z.E. has since evolved into the Renault Kangoo Be Bop Z.E. prototype, unveiled at Renault's Annual General Meeting in May.

The Z.E. concept is powered by a 70kW electric motor developing around 226Nm of torque, and Renault claims a range of 100km before a recharge is needed.

The Be Bop Z,E, offers a preview of the technology Renault-Nissan plans to offer on the Japanese and US markets in an upcoming Nissan electric vehicle in 2010.

A Renault EV using the same technology is expected to debut in Europe in 2011, while the rest of the world will see it on local roads from 2012.
