Renault's hot-hatches are crackers: fast, fiesty and a hoot at the wheel - something that most Australian drivers have not yet realised, but well-recognised in the UK and Europe.
Early last year, Renault began offering European customers a luxury pack for its pint-sized blaster, the Clio RS 197, called the 'Luxe' pack. It is now extending the offer to British customers. Now called the 'Lux' pack, the UK??1,000 option consists of a wide range of luxury-oriented upgrades said to be valued at almost double the asking price. 'More kit for less' sounds like a good starting point to us.
For around AUD$2400, buyers will receive leather upholstery, climate control, automatic headlamps and wipers, cornering lights, extra-tinted rear windows, an upgraded MP3 compatible stereo, RenaultSport mats and satin chrome trim highlights. Brushed aluminum 'Raider' alloy wheels and a satin chrome finish to the door mirrors and other external components also differentiates the 'Lux' pack Clio RS 197.
If that's not enough, the little rocket can be optioned further with electric folding wing mirrors, electric panoramic sunroof, xenon headlamps, Speedline wheels (in either white or black) and the 'Cup' (track biased) chassis.
The Lux pack will be available in January for British buyers. We'd love to see it offered locally as the value for money equation looks spot on. We hope it doesn't take another 18 months to get here.
