Renault has revealed its new Captur concept ahead of its official unveiling at next month's Geneva Motor Show, revealing styling inspired by its earlier DeZir concept.

Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009, the DeZir hinted at a future-focused and flowing new styling language for the French company. That theme is continued with the design of the Captur.

Styled as a Nissan Juke-like crossover SUV concept, Renault says the Captur was developed as a preview of things to come, with a number of its styling cues set to appear in a "forthcoming road car."

"In designing CAPTUR, I began with the image of a sprinter on the starting blocks, his muscles tensed, and the energy unleashed when the starting pistol is fired," designer Julio Lozano said.

Power for the Captur is provided by Renault's 1.6 litre Energy dCi 160 twin-turbo engine, a concept version of its Energy dCi 130 production engine. Mated to a dual-clutch EDC transmission, it produces 118kW and 380Nm of torque.

The Captur also features Renault's new RX2 traction system, with a new mechanical self-locking differential sending power to whichever of the two drive wheels has the most traction when slip is detected.

Renault's latest concept also marks the debut of the Visio system, using a forward-facing camera at the top of the windscreen to embed computer images in a real-time display of the road ahead, such as direction markers and landmark indicators.

The Captur will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
