Range Rover Evoque 5-door Stars In New Video

Following the online unveiling earlier this month of the 2011 Range Rover Evoque five-door, Land Rover has released a new promotional video for its stylish entry-level SUV.

Revealed ahead of its LA Auto Show debut next week, the Evoque five-door is largely identical to its three-door sibling, but for the extra doors and longer roof line.

The same concept-driven narrow headlights dominate the five-door's face and the motion-inspiring belt line is only slightly less raked than the steeper belt of the three-door.

"While retaining everything that's great about the Range Rover Evoque coupé, this new five-Door bodystyle will offer customers even more choice, greater practicality, versatility and flexibility," Land Rover's Managing Director Phil Popham said.

Deceptively longer, the five-door is actually the same length as the three-door Evoque, although a 50mm boost in rear headspace gives passengers room to enjoy the (optional) panoramic glass roof.

Features and trim grades are largely shared with the three-door. This includes a touch-screen display with angle-based dual-view technology, allowing different views and content from both the passenger and driver seats.

As with most wagons, the five-door Evoque features 60/40 folding rear seats, pushing storage capacity out to 1445 litres with the seats folded flat.

Powertrain options are carried over from the three-door, including the Si4 petrol engine, a version of Ford's 2.0 litre turbocharged EcoBoost engine.

The Si4 engine offers a comparable output to Land Rover's existing inline-six, producing 180kW and 360Nm of torque in the Evoque. This same engine is expected to debut in the Australian Ford Falcon sometime in 2011 or 2012.

Diesel engines will also be offered, both 2.2 litre four-cylinder engines producing 110kW and 140kW respectively, paired with either the six-speed auto or a six-speed manual transmission - the latter combined with a fuel-saving stop/start system.

Both 4WD and front-wheel-drive versions of the Evoque have also been confirmed, in three- and five-door body styles.

A Haldex four-wheel-drive setup adds Land Rover's multi-terrain system, with driving mode that include general driving, grass/gravel/snow, mud and ruts, and sand.

The Evoque will also feature adaptive magnetic dampers, representing the first application of this system on any Land Rover model. A dynamic mode is available for models fitted with the adaptive dampers, designed to significantly reduce body roll for more aggressive cornering potential.

The Evoque is set to go on sale in Europe in mid 2011. Land Rover Australia has confirmed a third quarter 2011 local launch.
