While many manufacturers focus on the massively untapped markets in China and India, PSA Citroën is looking a little further north and have one eye firmly fixed on Russia. With plans to sell at least 100,000 cars in Russia in 2010 PSA Citroën has notified the Russian authorities of its decision to build a manufacturing plant in the city of Kaluga, 180 kilometers southwest of Moscow.

Scheduled to come on stream in 2010, the new factory will produce vehicles in the midsize segment, which represents nearly 60% of all sales in the fast expanding Russian market. The new manufacturing facility will be central to PSA Citroën’s development strategy in Russia, and while the short-term goal is 100,000 sales, the mid-term goal is to shift 300,000 trident badged cars per annum to the Russians. No, I’m not going to make any jokes about Vodka or Trabants...
