So, you really like the Range Rover Sport but your heart belongs to Porsche. Sucks doesn’t it…until now. Porsche are debuting their new Cayenne GTS at Frankfurt in a few days and its low and angry just the way an SUV should be – who really wants to go off road anyway?
The Cayenne GTS features a specially developed chassis with permanent AWD, the Cayenne’s ‘improved’ V8 engine option and a six-speed manual. Lowered to within an inch of its life (for an SUV) the GTS rides on 21-inch alloy wheels with 295/35 tyres all kept nice and legal by the addition of wheel arch extensions.
Inside the GTS package includes redesigned front and rear seats that Porsche describe as being ‘sportier in personality’. Two new paint finishes will be introduced with the Cayenne GTS, Nordic Gold Metallic and the pictured GTS red.
The GTS will be the first Cayenne to feature Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), an electronically controlled damping system. The GTS will also see the fitment of air suspension as standard.
The GTS will slot into the Porsche range between the Cayenne S and Turbo S models. Fitted with the revised version of Porsche’s 4.8-litre V8, good for around 300kW / 400bhp, the low-rider GTS should be good for a 0-100km/h time of 6.1 seconds.
The GTS is scheduled to debut in North America in March 2008 at a starting price of US69,300. Australian delivery and pricing is not yet known and will include the usual hefty 'lucky country' government donation.
