Porsche’s 911 is the iconic sports car. Since its inception in the 60’s it has evolved into one of the most admired and aspired to sports cars on the planet. However, it would often take a trained eye to pick the many updates that have taken place over the years. Evolution not revolution is certainly the mantra at Porsche when it comes to their precious 911.

News around the traps suggests that the 911 range is again on the eve of an update, and this time around it will involve some serious hardware changes beneath the subtly altered skin. First on the list is the addition of direct injection to the flat six mills currently on offer. Porsche have already kitted their 2007 Cayenne with direct-injection and the result was a 10 to 15 percent increase in power and torque, so similar gains are expected when the 3.6-litre and 3.8-litre sixes get the treatment.

The other big news has been rumoured for some time now and will bring the 911 technologically right up to date – an optional dual-clutch gearbox. Unfortunately, details are scarce but expect more information to become available prior to the updated 911’s expected appearance, in the second half of this year.
