In a direct challenge to Audi’s TT, Peugeot are wrapping up the development of their stunning 308 RC Z with a view to having a production version on sale some time in 2009 – and it is likely to be some twenty percent cheaper than its Audi rival.

The prototype was first unveiled at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show and public reaction to the Peugeot coupe was hugely positive. The 308 RC Z will be based on the chassis of the 308 hatchback, and will be front-wheel-drive.

Thankfully, its styling is expected to be very similar to the prototype (pictured) although it is likely to lose the carbon-fibre roof and chrome A-pillars but is expected to retain the unique rear-windscreen. Stay tuned for further updates as more details become known.
