Petrol Prices On The March, No End In Sight

PETROL PRICES ARE on the rise again, following the Easter break this past weekend. NSW motorists have been hit the hardest this week, slugged with an average of $1.34 for a litre of unleaded petrol - up eight cents over the previous week's prices.

Speaking with News Ltd this week, RACV Public Policy Manager Brian Negus urged motorists to shop around if they see prices reach $1.35, avoiding the higher-priced fuel when possible.

"The message is to drivers there will be cheaper prices out there. If you see $1.35 - unless it's absolutely essential - don't buy and look for something cheaper," Mr Negus said.

As the global price of crude oil climbs to its highest in 18 months, the average cost at the pump has risen three cents around Australia to $1.29.

Trading at around US$75 to US$85 per barrel in past months, oil has passed into a new price range that could see it rise to US$95 per barrel in the near future.

In the past week alone, the Singapore unleaded petrol price - a determining factor in local pricing - has risen US$4.30 to US$93.40 a barrel. Today it is trading at US$94.98, an 18-month high.
