New South Wales police are out in force today as Operation Obedience targets illegal activities at road black-spots, with seven fatalities already recorded in the South West metropolitan area this year.

Last month, Operation Obedience saw more than 400 drivers and pedestrians stopped by police for offences committed at intersections.

“The Obedience initiative is in direct response to the high number of pedestrian deaths and injuries that occur at or near intersections, Assistant Commissioner Frank Mennilli said.

"Last year there were 20 pedestrians killed in our region and so far this year there has been seven pedestrian fatalities."

Operation Obedience is conducted every month and involves Highway Patrol police targeting the top five ‘black-spot’ intersections in each local area command within South West Metropolitan Region.

Intersections on the following roads will be targeted:

M4 Motorway, Victoria Road, Parramatta Road, Hume Highway, Milperra Road, Canterbury Road, Stacey Street, King Georges Road, Cumberland Highway, Woodville Road, The Horsley Drive, Elizabeth Drive, Narellan Road, Camden Valley Way, Appin Road and Campbelltown Road.
