Nissan UK has teamed up with Silverstone International racing school to give some 1300 European GT-R customers (and future customers) some supervised track time and performance-driving tutelage behind the wheel of the GT-R at the Nurburgring.

The driving program has been organised by Nissan to familiarise customers from the UK and Europe with the capabilities of the GT-R before delivery. (And maybe to also stop the natives from getting too restless while they wait for their cars to arrive - delivery times, if you were to order now, have blown out beyond 12 months.)

It is part of an ongoing initiative by Nissan and Silverstone International racing school. The many kilometers of track of the GT-R's Nordeschliefe proving grounds will ensure that new GT-R owners can experience a host of road and track conditions and be confident of coming to grips with the car's phenomenal performance.

Nissan and Silverstone said that over half of the participants already through the 'GT-R Academy' had previously undertaken some form of advanced driving training. But most reckoned - according to reports - that the track time at the 'Ring was the best training they'd experienced.

What better way to take ownership of your new GT-R (or any performance car) than by blasting around the Nurburgring under the guidance of highly-trained experts? Perhaps we might see the very same thing at our home grown holy grail of race tracks, Bathurst. So, where do we sign up?
